From Acclaim to Rage: Right-wing Response to Jeffrey Epstein File Disclosure is Divided.

Conservative responses to the partial disclosure of files involving the Epstein case have been sharply divided, with some backers of the former Trump administration pointing out the noticeable presence of Bill Clinton and additional Democrats in photographs, while different voices expressed frustration over how heavy redactions cast Donald Trump and Republicans in a unfavorable manner.

Justice Department Justifies Redactions with Fervent Hyperbole

Justice Department officials justified the redactions with intense exaggerated language. “Never in American history has a President or the Justice Department been so transparent with the public about such a delicate law enforcement matter,” stated Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who released a six-page letter outlining the redaction procedure.

Concerns Raised by Redactions

While Trump's name and likeness are visible in some of the materials, the extensive redactions raise significant questions about the information may be hidden behind them. Some Republicans swiftly called for greater openness.

“The public are furious and disengaging,” wrote Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Via a online statement, Republican Kentucky Thomas Massie asserted the redactions violate the law, and implied that a subsequent Congress may move to remove the Attorney General, Pam Bondi, for that offense. “Unfortunately, this document release egregiously fails to adhere to both the spirit and the wording of the act,” he added.

Some Conservative Figures Rally Behind the Release

But, a segment of conservative pundits and Trump loyalists came out strongly behind the Justice Department's actions.

The release—from a DOJ led by close Trump associate Pam Bondi—includes scores of documents that are completely censored, and many of the men shown in photographs have their faces obscured.

But a few are not, featuring prominent individuals like Clinton, entertainer Michael Jackson, and academic Noam Chomsky. The inclusion of Clinton, especially, allowed certain conservative voices to launch the attack.

“It’s quite ironic how the Democrats falsely accused President Trump of associating with a pedophile, only for the administration's Justice Department to unveil Epstein files that show Bill Clinton swimming nude with a pedophile,” stated conservative activist Laura Loomer.

“New documents reveal Bill Clinton shirtless in a hot tub with a woman that is not his spouse Hillary Clinton,” wrote attorney Rogan O’Handley. “There’s only 1 reason Epstein would take pictures of a Commander-in-Chief with a girl in a jacuzzi: Blackmail.”

Clinton Spokesperson Releases Statement

Bill Clinton has consistently stated he knew of no illegal actions by Epstein and has never been accused to have engaged in any misconduct. “The White House has not been concealing those files for an extended period only to dump them at the last minute on a Friday to protect Bill Clinton,” Clinton’s spokesperson Angel Ureña said in a comment.

“This is about shielding officials from future revelations, or from what they will try and conceal permanently. Therefore they can release as many grainy 20-plus-year-old photographs as they desire, but it isn’t about Bill Clinton. Never has, never will be,” the statement added.

Overall Rightwing Comment Remains Subdued

However, overall comment on the right was comparatively subdued following the release, especially when juxtaposed against the vociferous demands for action that preceded the congressional approval to enact a bill mandating the files' release.

The commentator, who not long ago secured press credentials at the Pentagon, had been among the loudest advocates for a complete disclosure. Earlier this year, she chastised the Justice Department broadly and Bondi in particular after a set of conservative personalities were given hard-copy folders of files that included no new information.
